A while ago, my boyfriend sneakily used one of my Pinterest boards to discover what polishes I was lemming after and bought me some Cult Nail polishes for my birthday. I had briefly showed him some of my Pinterest boards a while back and was quite surprised that he had thought to look there for birthday present inspiration. Needless to say I couldn’t stop beaming (after my initial confused reaction followed by my surprised utterance of “How… how… how did you know?” *cue happy face for the next half hour while I ooo’d and aaah’d at the polish bottles while turning them this way and that*). I could see from his face that he was immune to the magical lure of nail polish but he was happy that I was displaying signs of being estatically over the moon.
I definitely wanted to use at least one of the polishes for my next mani and had decided on Cult Nails Seduction with its magical colour-shifting blue and red flakes in a sheer dark purple base. After considering the many many mani possibilities using this polish, I finally settled on an idea and thus this multichrome flakie jelly sandwich was born. I decided to combine Seduction with Nfu Oh 52 (blue-green color shifting flakes and green shimmer in a sheer purple base). I also decided on Hits Cutie Pie for the multichrome base because I love the strong purple-blue-green colour shift it has. For those looking for a 3-free version of Cutie Pie, Ludurana Show is a dupe that is lightly scented.
Hits Cutie Pie by itself is sheer and a dark opaque base colour makes the colour shift even stronger. Because of this, I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blazing Blue as the base colour due to its no-fuss one-coat-opaque formula. I quite like the brush too though I’m aware that quite a lot of people can’t stand the brush due to its stiffness and flat rounded-tip shape. If you have small nails you definitely want to stay away from this range, or at least the brush, as the brush is quite wide (wider the OPI brushes due to it’s stiff flat shape). My friend who has quite small nails bought a bottle and was unable to use it because the brush was too big.
When I finished the mani I took what seemed like a gazillion photos trying to capture all the different facets and hues of this colour shifting flakie sandwich. I also deemed it video-worthy so be sure to view the colour-shifting goodness in action at the end of the post.
COMMENCE MEGA PHOTO SPAM:
Here is the video with some colour-shifting action, I suggest you click the YouTube button in the bottom bar in order to enlarge the video and change the settings to 480p for better video quality. The first half was taken under a daylight (white light) bulb and the second half was taken under a normal desk lamp bulb (yellow light). The base colour on my thumb in the video was Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Uptempo Plum (a dark, almost black purple).
